Three days of vaired conditions made for an excellent regatta. We had 25kts on friday with huge steep waves offshore, I saw boatspeeds of 20 kts! Saturday was light and the seabreeze stuggled to fill in, when it did we were lucky to get two races off before the free Dark N Stormies Courtesy of Goslings Rum (yum yum) The weather was right on for sunday with teens for breeze and smaller waves than friday. We finished poorly in a PHRF fleet, but we were the smallest boats by a bunch, the largest being a Farr 60 with a rating of -84. Just FYI the FT10 rates a 52 in this event. This concluded my season on the Toy Tiger this year and it is on the the Great Lakes for some big One Design racing on Beneteau 36.7s on the Big Electric Cat. Go the cat.

The event was a smashing sucess. We sailed very well (FT10 Toy Tiger) except for the gear failures. Losing a jib halyard and switching to the spin halyard (the only other one) then having it break on the same beat, losing it down the mast. This was not a great start for us as this was the second race of the event and we had to withdraw from the third due to no headsail. We were lucky enough to have a 2 for the first race.
The second day of racing brought much of the same conditions, kickin' seabreeze and nice swell. We sailed well this day with a 1-2 and we wound up third overall. This was supposed to be a cheap weekend however it became expensive when my DSLR (camera) went for a swim. Great event, cheap beer and awesome parties make this a must do for next year. There is talk of making this a 3 day event next year and I believe it should be. the weather is great, Archie's is a great bar, and to top it off we witnessed a Shuttle Launch from only 30 or so miles away.

Well, I have packed my bags and I am ready to go. The temp in Louisville is down in the 30s but it is nice and warm in FL. We will be racing on Toy Tiger, an FT10, in a PHRF event. This event is the fledgling event for SAYC to prove its mettle in the world of the Americas Cup. We shall see how the event goes off, but with its philosophy of cheap registration, free beer (no bracelets) and tons of swag, this is sure to be a winner. The timing of the event is also key, it is after the southern FL events are done, but before Charleston Race Week, a HUGE event and growing in numbers even as we speak. Three FT10s, 3 Laser SB3s, the new FT7.5, and a handful of others will be competeing in PHRF A, the biggest fleet racing this weekend. I intend to give some updates throughout the event (at evening time) as long as I am not inebriated. To follow the action, check out Sailing Anarchy or go to the Yacht Scoring page.
